The Adams variety is one of the most commonly grown variety of elderberry in North America. They thrive in USDA zones 3-9 and a full bush can reach anywhere from 6 to 10 feet in height.

This variety has a very unique lemon scent, and is best suited for USDA zones 4-7. They prefer moist, even wet conditions to that of dry climates, and will grow up to 6 feet in height.

Thriving in USDA zones 4-7, the Black Lace variety has beautiful pink blooms, and loves moist conditions.
#4. Blue
Sometimes confused for blueberries, the Blue elderberry variety are suitable for USDA zones 3-10.
#5. European Red
This stunning variety has the potential to reach 20 feet in height and grow well in USDA zones 3-8. Although these red berries are not recommended for human consumption, they do attract a large number of butterflies!
#6. Lemon Lace
Lemon lace, a hardy and showy elderberry variety, is prized in North America because it's cold and wind resistant. It does very well in full sun, and is recommended for USDA zones 3-7. As mentioned above, experts caution against the consumption of red elderberries.

With the largest berries and highest fruit yield, the York variety is a resilient breed that thrives in USDA zones 3-9.
